VETERAN VILLAGE

The Veteran Village Medical Rehabilitation Center is an institution for medical, physical and psychological rehabilitation for veterans and their families. According to the concept of the medical center, it is planned to build a structure, it will take place medical and rehabilitation procedures, measures. It is planned to build a recreational space around the medical center, where veterans and their families will live during rehabilitation and recovery. The mission is to support veterans by providing access to essential medical and rehabilitation services. The Veteran Village Medical Rehabilitation Center will prevent the marginalization of veterans and their families, help with the adaptation of veterans to civilian life (transition from military career to civilian life) and facilitate the full return of veterans to their communities.
Goal: recovery of veterans and their families; improvement of relationships in veterans' families, psychological and emotional recovery; adaptation to life with disability (loss of vision, loss of limbs, concussion, acubarotrauma, prevention and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its consequences) return of full and partial functionality; study of the consequences of acubarotrauma and PTSD; improving the overall health and social well-being of veterans and their families; creating an inclusive space.

Center for Medical Innovations – charitable foundation (NOVO Medical Center) is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation. Since the beginning of its work, the Charitable Programme «Innovative Diagnostics at the NOVO Medical» has been operating to provide free diagnostics to seriously ill patients in three children's hospitals in Lviv. After the aggression of russian federation in 2022, new areas of assistance were introduced: internally displaced persons, veterans, patients of Lviv military hospitals, and family members of military personnel. The British Embassy in Ukraine provided grant funds in 2023 and only during the period of validity (July 2023 – February 2024), 2317 free high-tech examinations such as MRI scans, computer tomography, ultrasound, and endoscopy were performed. The work continues at its own expense. In total, over 10 years, NOVO has provided 7510 free and 3312 preferential diagnostic examinations. For further activities, it is necessary to update the fleet of medical equipment: Toshiba Aplio Platinum (2 pcs.), BTL-4110 SMART laser (1 pc.), SONIC-Stim Pro UT 1041 ultrasound therapy device (1 pc.), UE-Stimu Combo Ct 1022 combined therapy device (1 pc.) or their equivalents. As well as three flexible MRI coils (shoulder, spine, abdominal and pelvic) for the Optima MR450w 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging scanner manufactured by GE Healthcare.

Provision of the high-tech innovative medical services to socially vulnerable categories of society

This project was implemented by the Center for Medical Innovations Charitable Foundation thanks to a grant received from the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Support Programme in Ukraine as part of the financial support of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom. The programme is implemented by Crown Agents in partnership with International Alert and in cooperation with Crown Agents in Ukraine.
The goal of the project: to create an effective mechanism for providing free high-tech innovative medical services to socially vulnerable categories of society in the Lviv region, using the resources of medical institutions, CSOs, businesses and external partners.
What has been done: During the period of the grant programme, more than 1856 free MRI scans, computer tomography, ultrasound diagnostics and endoscopic examinations were provided to combatants and war veterans, more than 274 patients of military hospitals on the referrals of chief doctors, 119 internally displaced persons under 18 years of age and almost 68 family members of military personnel who went missing under special circumstances. As a result of the implementation of the grant programme, two intermediate round table discusstions were held in Lviv and Kyiv, the main concept of which was to discuss the accessibility, quality and financing of medical services for veterans, military personnel and internally displaced persons, the use of effective rehabilitation methods and the important role of the private medical sector in providing assistance to socially vulnerable groups populace.
